[edit] Biography

Joseph Raymond Eischen was originally drafted in the fifth round of the 1988 amateur draft by the Chicago White Sox but Joey Eischen did not sign. In 1989, he was drafted in the fourth round of the 1989 amateur draft by the Texas Rangers. In 1991, Eischen (with Jonathan Hurst & Travis Buckley) was traded by the Rangers to the Montreal Expos for Oil Can Boyd. Eischen pitched one major league game in 1994 as an Expo, and then in 1995 he was traded (with Roberto Kelly) to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Henry Rodriguez & Jeff Treadway. Eischen was again traded the next year (1996), this time with John Cummings to the Detroit Tigers for Chad Curtis. That same year (1996), barely, he was traded with a minor leaguer (Cam Smith) to the San Diego Padres for Willie Blair and Brian Johnson. Before Eischen could play a game for the Padres, he was traded in 1997 to the Cincinnati Reds for a player to be named later (Ray Brown). That year Eischen became a free agent and he signed with the New York Yankees. Before playing a game for the Yankees, Eischen was released slightly more than a month later (Yankee = Feb. 3, 1998-March 11, 1998). Three days later, Eischen signed with the Cincinnati Reds, rejoining the team he had played with in the previous season (1997). One year later (without playing for the major league club), Eischen was released by the Reds. He quickly signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks, who then released him roughly four months later. In December of 1999, he signed with the Cleveland Indians, but was released by them four months later (April of 2000). Three months later, Eischen was back with the Montreal Expos, who then released him and later re-signed him in 2001.

Most people believe that Joey Eischen's best season was 2002, when he posted a 1.34 ERA and struck out 51 batters.
