Joey Chestnut, WORLD record holder

Dateline - Phoenix (technically Tempe), AZ June 2nd, 2007.

Joey Chestnut shatters world record by OVER 10%!!!

Chances are you have heard the name 'Kobayashi'. You have seen his Solomon Method and it's gloriousness. But as much as I respect Kobayashi, I have been preaching for almost TWO years to anyone who was unable to ignore me...

59 1/2 HDBs Joey Chestnut
World Record Holder.

Joey Chestnut is the best there is, folks

Over the weekend, Joey Chestnut set a new world record for most Hot Dogs and Buns (HDBs) eaten with 59 1/2!!!

Yeah with all the talk about "touchy issues" lately, I thought I could divert some attention to the Downers of the Dog, the Gulpers of the Meatsticks and Devourers of Buns. The Greatness that is about to envelop us all and yak us back up after the 10 minute time limit has passed. Joey Chestnut - A new WORLD record! With a new Great American Hope on the horizon and a few minor twists of luck and fashion, Competitive Eating could be the next poker (which was the old poker).

FIFTY NINE hot dogs and buns!!! Just a mere 6 HDBs better than the previous record, held by the world's second best eater, and gastroptosis sufferer Takeru Kobayashi. This is from a guy who is only 23 years old and has been eating competitively for only his third season! In less than six years the record has swollen from 25 1/2 to almost 60!

I used to think I could be a competitive eater. I've won many informal contests, entertained gawkers at Thanksgiving and was even TWO time champion pumpkin pie eater at my former place of employment. I always thought I could eat upwards of 30 HDBs back when the record was in the 20's... I KNOW I could crush Refrigerator Perry (what an embarassment). Kobiyashi came along in just in time to make me reconsider making a run at 400 (lbs that is - topped out at 282). But the first time I saw Joey Chestnut at a competition last year, I knew - not just sensed, KNEW a new era was coming... I knew he could do more. He has the gullet of a champion and the hunger to succeed.

A wise man once suggested to "never eat anything larger than your own head" - the world can thank Joey Chestnut for defying that advice and taking us on an incredible journey next month at Coney Island! July 4th, on ESPN the BIGGEST showdown in competitive eating history will take place and Joey Chesnut will take the Mustard Belt and reign as Nathan's champion!!!!!

I hope he's clutch because it's bad when a competitive eater chokes! (Punny joke! go ahead - turn away and pretend not to know me) Even though Sonya Thomas won't win, she is fun to watch compete. She will pass 40 HDBs this year.

If you're bored, want to have your mind blown by the propensity of human accomplishment or just want to get grossed out, CHECK this link out!!! IFOCE World Records

Here's some crappy video evidence of the master at work!

Gotta watch the video on mute. Or, someone has to shoot the guy with the mic.

Chesnut is the HDB master, but Kobayashi will ALWAYS be the cowbrains eating king... 57 brains (17.7 pounds) in 12 minutes... unreal!

I'm pretty sure that Erik could definitely win in a hotdog quantity contest if the rules were changed and an alternative orifice for entry was mandated.

Not me on those alleged minuses Erik. As for your hotdog entry problem, try some mayo for lube. Hey where is FP today?

And since the ratings seem to have you irritated, I gave you a "+" for effort. As for "-" = cancer, I actually heard they cause AIDS.

That's pretty funny Tyrone, just a nice little ribbing. I don't understand why you got the minus if Manny isn't handing them out, because I would hope this sort of razzing is acceptable here at the 'Chair. PS - Manny, if you gave yourself a hot-dog lobotomy using three tube steaks, what else is up there?

This may be a foreign concept to some, but for the most part, the type of razzing done here is directed at sports figures, not other members of the community.

Haven't you ever been in a lockeroom Manny? Trash talking is a part of the game, and the media (of which this site is ultimately a part) haven't you watched ATH or Best Damn?? You razz with the best o' them as well (thanks to JTJ by the way) So try to get the knot out of your panties and take the hotdog jokes like a Man -ny!

Not that arguing about the integrity of shoving hot dogs up one's arse isn't enlightening and all but I suggest moving over to Beast's excellent post concerning the very fine Allison Stokke.

Go read the year and a half of articles before you got here... ridiculous. You don't know everything, and thus are easily fooled. I don't remember the last time I saw the guys on Best Damn talk about shoving things up their asses... or have a weird fascination with my "panties"... that's like the 5th time you referenced them... What's up with THAT?

"Panties" is colloquial. Razzing is razzing whether it's hotdogs in the butt or someone calling somebody a sissy. Butt it's fascinating that you got a panty count going. Is it time to do your laundry yet? And no I don't know everything, but as YOU have said, Jay Mariotti's foolishness sells papers. Maybe a little colorful convesation will bring in an untapped audience to this fine forum (oh wait, it already has...) And you certainly entertain it, Dr. Commento.

Do people realize that eating 59.5 hot dogs in 12 minutes is BAD for your health?? Geez even just 25 hot dogs I thought would be detrimental!

Yes, Chestnut may be the world record holder for hot dogs. But until he beats Kobayashi in the Johnsonville brat eating competition in my "other" hometown of Sheboygan, Wisconsin this summer, I'm not impressed. Last year, Kobayashi smoked him, 58-45.
