Joel Zumaya: Future Closer stud?

So I was just watching the Detroit Tigers play the Chicago White Sox game today and Joel Zumaya blew me away once again. I am already high on this super prospect, but the fastball I just saw was impeccable. The location of that fastball to strikeout Alex Cintron was pinpoint.

That ball hit the outside corner in a post where it basically rendered Cintron useless. The factor that made that pitch so exciting was the fact that it was accompanied by the speed of 98mph. If Joel Zumaya can continue to locate his pitches, and bring the heat I see great things for this youngster. Fantasy owners keep an eye on this kid; he could be closing in Detroit at any time. When he gets that job, he might not let go of it either…

Zumaya's got tremendous stuff but will have to bring his walk rate way down to become one of the top closers...can definitely be done.

Yeah, I got to see him once during their recent series with the Rangers, and I was very impressed. I can't say a lot, having only seen that one appearance, but from that one, he sure does have good stuff.

if the Tigers had this gun in the minors and Rodney in the majors why did they overpay Todd Jones?

Can't hurt to have extra arms in the bullpen. Too many teams have problems with their bullpens because they might have a great closer, but they have little or nothing else to transition from the starter to the closer. Plus, closers are so erratic, you just never know who will work out and who won't. So, it doesn't hurt to have backup options, either.
