Born on August 1, 1899 in Peckville, Pennsylvania, Joe Shaute (Joseph Benjamin Shaute) played for the Cleveland Indians, Brooklyn Robins, Brooklyn Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 13 year career. Shaute broke into the bigs on July 6, 1922 with the Cleveland Indians, and put up a 3.51 ERA in 172 innings pitched in 1923, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Joe Shaute's best season was 1924, when he posted a 3.75 ERA, won 20 games and struck out 68 batters.
