Joe Schmiesing (Joseph Frank Schmiesing) was born on April 1, 1945 in Melrose, Minnesota. After going to high school at Sauk Centre (MN), Schmiesing attended New Mexico State University, North Dakota State College of Science and the University of Minnesota. Schmiesing made his professional debut in the NFL in 1968 with the St. Louis Cardinals. He played for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Jets, Detroit Lions and Baltimore Colts over the course of his 7 year career.
