Joe Rutgens (Joseph Casimere Rutgens) was born on January 26, 1939 in Cedar Point, Illinois. After going to high school at LaSalle-Peru (La Salle Township, IL), Rutgens attended the University of Illinois. Rutgens made his professional debut in the NFL in 1961 with the Washington Redskins. He played for the Washington Redskins for his entire 9 year career.

Most people believe that 1962 was Joe Rutgens's best year.
