Joe Manning (James Joseph Manning) was born on November 20, 1900 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. After going to high school at Xavier (New York, NY), Manning attended Fordham University. Manning made his professional debut in the NFL in 1926 with the Providence Steam Roller. He played for the Providence Steam Roller for his entire 1 year career.
