Born on November 12, 1936 in Dubuque, Iowa, Joe Hoerner (Joseph Walter Hoerner) played for the Houston Colt .45s, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves, Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 14 year career. Hoerner broke into the bigs on September 27, 1963 with the Houston Colt .45s, and put up a 1.54 ERA in 76 innings pitched in 1966, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Joe Hoerner's best season was 1966, when he posted a 1.54 ERA, notched 13 saves and struck out 63 batters.
