Joe Hergert (Joseph Martin Hergert) was born on June 7, 1936 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. After going to high school at Daytona Beach (FL), Hergert attended the University of Florida. Hergert made his professional debut in the AFL in 1960 with the Buffalo Bills. He played for the Buffalo Bills for his entire 2 year career.

Most people believe that 1960 was Joe Hergert's best year, as he ran back an interception for a touchdown.
