Born on September 21, 1917 in Lincolnton, Georgia, Joe Haynes (Joseph Walton Haynes) played for the Washington Senators and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 14 year career. Haynes broke into the bigs on April 24, 1939 with the Washington Senators, and put up a 5.36 ERA in 173 innings pitched in 1939, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Joe Haynes's best season was 1947, when he posted a 2.42 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 50 batters.
