Born on March 12, 1893 in Washington, D.C., Joe Engel (Joseph William Engel) played for the Washington Senators, Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians over the course of his 7 year career. Engel broke into the bigs on May 30, 1912 with the Washington Senators, and put up a 3.96 ERA in 75 innings pitched in 1912, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Joe Engel's best season was 1913, when he posted a 3.06 ERA and struck out 70 batters.
