Born on January 20, 1917 in Durant, Oklahoma, Joe Dobson (Joseph Gordon Dobson) played for the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 14 year career. Dobson broke into the bigs on April 26, 1939 with the Cleveland Indians, and put up a 5.88 ERA in 78 innings pitched in 1939, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Joe Dobson's best season was 1947, when he posted a 2.95 ERA, won 18 games and struck out 110 batters.
