Born on June 17, 1910 in Kansas City, Kansas, Joe Bowman (Joseph Emil Bowman) played for the Philadelphia Athletics, New York Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 11 year career. Bowman broke into the bigs on April 18, 1932 with the Philadelphia Athletics, and put up a 3.61 ERA in 107.1 innings pitched in 1934, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Joe Bowman's best season was 1945, when he posted a 3.92 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 71 batters.
