Born on February 15, 1895 in Brooklyn, New York, Jimmy Ring (James Joseph Ring) played for the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Giants and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 12 year career. Ring broke into the bigs on April 13, 1917 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 4.40 ERA in 88 innings pitched in 1917, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Jimmy Ring's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1923, when he posted a 3.87 ERA, won 18 games and struck out 112 batters. However, others believe that it was 1919, when he posted a 2.26 ERA, won 10 games and struck out 61 batters.
