Jimmy Knowles (James Knowles) was born on September 5, 1856 in Toronto, Ontario (Canada). He made his Major League debut on May 2, 1884 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1884, his rookie year, he hit .233 with 1 home run and 0 RBI. Knowles played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers, Washington Senators, New York Metropolitans, Rochester Hop Bitters and New York Giants over the course of his 5 year career.

Most people believe that Jimmy Knowles's best season was 1890, when he stole 55 bases, hit for a .281 average and knocked in 84 runs.
