Born on October 9, 1909 in Shelbyville, Tennessee, Jim Winford (James Head Winford) played for the St. Louis Cardinals and Brooklyn Dodgers over the course of his 6 year career. Winford broke into the bigs on September 10, 1932 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 3.80 ERA in 192 innings pitched in 1936, his rookie year.
Most people believe that Jim Winford's best season was 1936, when he posted a 3.80 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 72 batters.
