Jim Whalen (James Francis Whalen) was born on May 20, 1943 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. After going to high school at Latin (Cambridge, MA), Whalen attended Boston College. Whalen made his professional debut in the AFL in 1965 with the Boston Patriots. He played in the AFL for 5 years, playing for the Boston Patriots the entire time. Whalen also played in the NFL for 2 years, playing for the Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos over the course of his 2 year NFL career.

Most people believe that 1968 was Jim Whalen's best year, as he hauled in 47 receptions, had 718 receiving yards and caught 7 TD passes.
