Jim Welch (James Evan Welch) was born on March 17, 1938 in Anson, Texas. After going to high school at Abilene (TX), Welch attended Southern Methodist University. Welch made his professional debut in the NFL in 1960 with the Baltimore Colts. He played for the Baltimore Colts and Detroit Lions over the course of his 9 year career.
Most people believe that 1963 was Jim Welch's best year, as he picked off 4 passes.
