Jim Tolbert (Love James Tolbert) was born on March 12, 1944 in Fairfield, Alabama. After going to high school at Industrial (Fairfield, AL), Tolbert attended Lincoln University of Missouri. Tolbert made his professional debut in the AFL in 1966 with the San Diego Chargers. He played in the AFL for 4 years, playing for the San Diego Chargers the entire time. Tolbert also played in the NFL for 7 years, playing for the St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Chargers and Houston Oilers over the course of his 7 year NFL career.

Most people believe that 1967 was Jim Tolbert's best year, as he had 441 kick return yards.
