Jim Peterson (James A. Peterson) was born on January 20, 1950 in San Diego, California. After going to high school at Crawford (San Diego, CA), Peterson attended Mesa Community College and San Diego State University. Peterson made his professional debut in the NFL in 1974 with the Los Angeles Rams. He played for the Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the course of his 3 year career.

Most people believe that 1975 was Jim Peterson's best year, as he ran back a fumble for a touchdown.
