Born on January 16, 1934 in Gifford, Pennsylvania, Jim Owens (James Philip Owens) played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Cincinnati Reds, Houston Colt .45s and Houston Astros over the course of his 12 year career. Owens broke into the bigs on April 19, 1955 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and put up a 3.21 ERA in 221.1 innings pitched in 1959, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Jim Owens's best season was 1959, when he posted a 3.21 ERA, won 12 games and struck out 135 batters.
