Born on March 2, 1917 in Strykersville, New York, Jim Konstanty (Casimir James Konstanty) played for the Cincinnati Reds, Boston Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 11 year career. Konstanty broke into the bigs on June 18, 1944 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 2.80 ERA in 112.2 innings pitched in 1944, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Jim Konstanty's best season was 1950, when he posted a 2.66 ERA, won 16 games, notched 22 saves and struck out 56 batters.
