Jim Gibbons (James Edwin Gibbons) was born on September 26, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois. After going to high school at Lindblom (Chicago, IL), Gibbons attended the University of Iowa. Gibbons made his professional debut in the NFL in 1958 with the Detroit Lions. He played for the Detroit Lions for his entire 11 year career.

Most people believe that 1964 was Jim Gibbons's best year, as he hauled in 45 receptions, had 605 receiving yards and caught 8 TD passes.
