[edit] Biography

Jim Edmonds (James Patrick Edmonds) was born on June 27, 1970 in Fullerton, California. He made his Major League debut on September 9, 1993 for the California Angels. In 1994, his rookie year, he hit .273 with 5 home runs and 37 RBI. Edmonds played for the California Angels, Anaheim Angels and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 14 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Jim Edmonds's most productive season. Some believe that it was 2004, when he slugged 42 home runs, hit for a .301 average and knocked in 111 runs. However, others believe that it was 2000, when he slugged 42 home runs, hit for a .295 average and knocked in 108 runs.

[edit] Scouting Report

[edit] Offense

Edmonds is a classic guess hitter and is one of the streakiest players in the game. He is a very patient hitter, willing to take close pitches even with two strikes, earning a fair share of walks. Spread stance and uppercut swing make him a flyball hitter.

A high fastball above the strike zone is both his biggest weakness and his biggest strength. When locked in, he is able to get extension on the ball and either lift it for a home run or tomahawk it. When off, he will swing and miss with near 100% certainty to seemingly test whether he is hot. He swings and misses at it enough such that pitchers will throw it above his letters any time they get at it ahead, but he often times decides to take it to get back into the count.

When he is on, he has power to all fields and is able to turn on any pitch. He is also able to adjust off of his initial guess. When he is not, strikeouts are plentiful as he is easily fooled with off speed stuff.

Sprays the ball all around on pop flies, tends to pull on the ground.

[edit] Defense

No longer has the speed to chase down balls, but gets nearly perfect jumps on every ball hit to compensate. Incredible over the shoulder ability in part because of a great ability to adjust to the ball. Above average arm power but very accurate, especially when charging in.

[edit] Most Known For

A defining moment of Edmonds' career came in the 2004 National League Championship Series, in which Edmonds hit an extra-inning home run to win Game 6 and made what is commonly referred to as "The Catch" to preserve a Game 7 win.
