Born on September 8, 1916 in Cleveland, Ohio, Jim Bagby (James Charles Jacob Bagby, Jr.) played for the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Pirates over the course of his 10 year career. Bagby broke into the bigs on April 18, 1938 with the Boston Red Sox, and put up a 4.21 ERA in 198.2 innings pitched in 1938, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Jim Bagby's best season was 1942, when he posted a 2.96 ERA, won 17 games and struck out 54 batters.
