Jets Get Gypped Again

by Crazyswordsman

Does anyone else notice that the New York Jets aren't in ANY nationally televised games this year? The Jets were the Cinderella story of last year, on a team with no superstars, only one Pro-Bowler (Justin Miller, who was relegated to kick returner), and a first year coach who was tutored under Bill Belichick. And they worked hard to get to the playoffs, and now they don't get any games on national TV.

The drama prone New York Giants, home of prettyboy and clumsy dramatician Eli Manning, get about eighteen of them, despite having trouble down the stretch and losing their only hope of being any good, Tiki Barber. Meanwhile, that team is having issues with its defense. And they get the national spotlight? It seems like the national media, and NBC in particular, love prettyboy QBs. They try and air the Giants as much as they can, and of course they have their contract with Notre Dame (and about 90% of college football fans, especially fans of Michigan, USC, and [insert SEC school here] hate Notre Dame).

Nobody loves a Cinderella story anymore. People would rather see teams with sex appeal than teams which work together as a unit to get places. Hopefully the Jets can use this time out of the spotlight to make it back to the playoffs as a Wild Card (too bad we have the Pats in our division, or else we'd probably win it).

As of right now, they're scheduled to be on NBC in week 17 against the Chiefs. And with flex scheduling, they could wind up on national TV at another time. But the best way for them to get on national TV would be to make the playoffs again.

NBC hates them. The Jets-Fins rivalry has in almost EVERY season been a Monday Night staple.

Well...i think you're not looking at it the same way...

Think about it...the AFC has the pats, colts, chargers, broncos, bengals, ravens and steelers as relatively big draws (throw in J-Ville if you want)...and that's not including your jets...

That's a lot of teams vying for TV time...

The NFC has..well, it has the NFC east New Orleans, Chicago and Seattle...so those NFC east games will naturally be highlighted (besides skins games) because they play eachother twice each season...plus the NYG are a bigger draw in NY than the jets...

The jets are a victim of being the mets of the NFL and being in a much better conference (at least, more competition and/or good teams)...so, if they were on fox, they'd get more exposure...

The "Mets" of the NFL. And we all know that both of the teams we're talking about here are the better team in their respective sport in New York.

By the way, we DO like a Cinderella story. We just like ESPN to tell us who it is first.

How the hell does the NFC draw more when the AFC is by far and wide the superior conference?

The problem is their stuck in a conference where their not even one of the top 5 draws. Put them in the NFC, and all you'll see every week on fox is the Jets.

I don't want to see the Jets on national TV wghen I could be watching a good team play. They're a boring team with one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the league.

I look for Mangini to pull a Cutler, and start Clemens in the middle o the season. They've got potential to become a good team. They just got stuck behind the team of the decade in their division

Okay. You don't want to watch the Jets when you could watch a "good" team play, you say? So what are the Jets? A crappy team that had a fluke last year?

And to elaborate, they lost to the Browns last year. I watched that game. I watched them lose in the playoffs. I was not impressed. I have little reason to believe that here in Ohio that they will merit any significant attention when I could watch any number of exciting teams on any given week.

don't underestimate the star power factor here. Chad Pennington when healthy may be a better QB than Eli, but when the fox guys put together a promo and say tune in to watch Eli Manning and the Giants versus whoever that's definitely more enticing to the casual fan than Chad Pennington and the Jets. Casual fans know the Manning name... no thanks to Eli really, but they know it nonetheless. Heck some people will tune in just cause they want to see "lil brother" get his butt kicked.

Doesn't count. See, it's a Thanksgiving game. In a Thanksgiving game, it's all about Dallas. It's never about who's better. It's just about Dallas and prettyboy Tony Romo being the second coming of Troy Aikma...oh wait! He BOTCHED A SNAP when the game was on the line! Chad Pennington is one of the better QBs in the league when he's healthy and has fast receivers.

You can't complain about the Jets not getting on national TV, then when people tell you they have 2 national games, say they don't count.

I completely missed that one, too. The jets play the Cowboys on national TV on Thanksgiving. So there's 2 national games there.

Actually, it's not true that nobody loves a Cinderella story any more. Those of us outside NYC don't believe that any NYC team could ever BE a Cinderella.
