Jets Acquire RB Lee Suggs

The New York Jets addressed their running-back problem, by acquiring Lee Suggs from the Cleveland Browns for DB Derrick Strait. The Jets acquired Suggs to replace expected starter, veteran Curtis Martin who has been sidelined with a lingering knee injury. While the Jets have both Derrick Blaylock and Cedric Houson neither appear to have the talent or ability to be a reliable back for the duration of the season.

Suggs, who is entering his fourth year in the NFL, ran for 744 yards in 2004 in 10 games. Last year, Suggs missed most of the season with various injuries.

Thats a solid pickup for the Jets. They are need of help in the backfield. They were looking at Betts from Washington, but with Portis's injuries I doube he will be on the block anymore.

i agree, this was a sensational pickup for the j-e-t-s. i dont know too much about straits, but if they were able to trade him straight up (no pun intended) for suggs, then the jets robbed the browns. i still think that cedric benson has some talent, and maybe one day he'll have his moment and have a lamont jordan type of career.

Suggs is an oft-injured back who hasn't proven anything yet. This doesn't solve much for the Jets.

but the point is they didnt give up much to get him. in 21 career games, strait has 56 total tackles, no int's, no td's, no sacks, etc. the only other real category he has recorded a statistic in is passes deflected, in which he has ONE pass deflected to his name!

I could agree with this, Gators. It's worth a shot. I just think that Cedric Houston did enough last year to deserve a full-time job.

This trade can be a steal for the Jets if Suggs stays healthy. But it is a big IF.

Gators is right, they needed to fill a hole, and they did that without costing the team. Thats all you can ask for in a situation like that, just a way to slow the floodgates.

As a Browns fan, I have to say @() @@#&@ &2*& *@ @*&!!!

Lee Suggs might get hurt, but when he's on, he's on. The Browns never gave him a fair shot and they're going to look real dumb if Suggs reaches his potential.

look on the bright side, you get kellen winslow back, and braylon edwards in a few months. they could push fitzgerald and boldin for the best duo in the nfl in a few yrs.

I am not sure I like this trade. I guess the Jets liked their depth in the secondary. Strait was probably the odd man out at CB but was transitioning to safety and started the 1st preseason game in the place of Erik Coleman. I have never been impressed with Lee Suggs. While the man may have talent, it is a news story when he is HEALTHY.

twenty years from now, when lee suggs gets inducted into the h.o.f. for breaking every rushing record on paper, i'll tell my kids about the day that i first heard of the trade on armchair. something like: The sea (or in this case, cleveland brown nation) was angry that day my friends, like an old man trying to return soup at a deli!
