Jeter Irrelevant Again

10
Vote

by user MetsJetsDevils

Derek Jeter added to the Yankees season of failure by losing the MVP race to Minnesota Twins First Baseman Justin Morneau. Jeter's loss is one of the most embarrassing in MVP race history. First of all, there is the coastal bias as Jeter plays for the media darling NY Yankees and Morneau plays for the almost contracted Minnesota Twins. Not only is Moenuau a designated hitter offering his team nothing defensively, but he is Canadien as well. Derek Jeter and the Yankees are said to be shocked and embarrassed. Alex Rodriguez was seen laughing and was heard saying under his breath "see, I am not the only loser on the Yankees."

As a Yankees fan - there are a few points I have:

1. I don't really care - what difference does it make in the grand scheme of things? 2. Jeter is NOT the MVP. Okay, Morneau isn't, but Jeter isn't either.

2.1. I bet User:Bball3345 didn't predict that!

No, I didn't see Morneau winning, nor should he have won. Jeter WAS the Most Valuable Player this season. Morneau wasn't even as valuable to the Twins as Mauer and, arguably, Santana. Don't get me wrong, Morneau had a fantastic offensive season, but he is a firstbaseman. All firstbaseman can hit. Middle infielders and catchers who can hit aren't as common.

Yep. Lower Jeter's average by 40 points but give him 20 more homers and he wins it easy. On the bright side, this gives me hope that Hafner can win it next year if he stays healthy and the Indians make the playoffs.

This is Blatantly Bias and Factually incorrect. Morneau is the First Baseman, not the DH!!! Secondly, the Bias is FOR the Yankees, not against them. Third, WTF is wrong with being Canadian? This is one of the worst opinions ever. Morneau hit 40+ HR's, 130+ RBI's, and hit for a BA over .310. Get your facts straight when writing a Bias article

mets/jets/devils- you are the biggest liberal. and sorry, that is not a compliment. open your eyes and don't buy the party line hook, line and sinker. i'm not saying the republicans are perfect, but NEITHER ARE THE DEMS. let;s see how pelosi cleans up the culture of corruption, (something the DEMS perfected from the 60's through the early 90's). let's face it, anyone with too much party for too long becomes corrupted. another reason to keep the gov't small and spending less.

Let's see how pelosi pushed for Murtha AND LOST. this guy was how do you say, corrupt!! next is alcee hastings. hmmm, where do i know that name. oh, yes he was impeached as federal judge. oh wait, maybe that was political. hmmm, NO!! it was actually a democratic senate committee that impeached him. WAY to go NANCY, you're off to a great start. NEXT up TAXES.

Read your post about Joe Lieberman too, quite amusing as an independent. from an outsider it looks like the democrats were trying to punish Joe for not being anti-war enough. Joe believes in a strong foreign policy, right or wrong that is what he believes. the funny thing about this is that Joe is one of the more liberal guys in the senate except foreign policy. So the Dems don't have an inclusive party and are miserable that they lost this seat. and the best part is that they didn't lose it to republicans....they lost it to independents and democrats. connecticut is a democratic/liberal state trough and through. maybe america is not ready for such biased, close-minded foreign policy. see ya'll in 2008. if hillary runs, she will be running all the way to the middle. not with the likes of kerry, gore, dean, kennedy, pelosi, reid (ya know the leaders of this old/failed party)

I question the idea that YOU read anything. You are so set in your 'ideals' that I fear you cannot possibly be intelligent enough to make conscious decisions, such as "what will I read today?" or "Maybe I'll see things in an objective perspective".

Your logic fails to pass the "that makes sense" test.

First off, your mind is made up for you by other people (why else would you read ONLY New York press?). Secondly, you were taught to defend your opinions with the weakest of evidence - None.

Third, you have no sack. If your opinion is so great and you have all the answers; 1)why don't you bravely sign in and take credit for effort, 2) go fix the world's problems All-the-Answers-boy and 3) See the world before deciding what you think is right for it...

As conservative as you think you are, you are pretty liberal with the blah blah blah and anally conservative with the cognition, relevancy and ACTUAL SPORTS OPINIONS

i'm sure you loved old Joe L. when he was running for VP with gore. remember that? or maybe you were too young. but the liberals from your "inclusive" party loved him in 2000. he is a senior democrat with a chairmanship in the senate. that doesn't matter to these new neo-liberals. wake up and think for yourself. don't be one of those protesters that don't even know what they're protesting. learn about topics, read up on them. read between the lines. policitics is not always that simple, but again, i don't know if you are too young and able to understand politics in america. who was the first president you remember? clinton?

actually the title of your blog says it all.....angry young dem!! i feel sorry for your generation, learn to think for yourself. learn to question authority, learn to question the so-called intellectual left that runs the democratic party. look at what their motives are, who votes for them, how they gain and maintain their power. neither party is looking out for you. you are just too young to understand, don't worry you'll learn kiddo. another thing you will learn too one day when you're a bit older is that the JETS suck, they will always suck. i have followed the jets for over 35 years and they have always sucked, i'm used to it. one day you too will understand how the world works and it might make you less bitter/hateful...not an angry young dem. good luck to you sonny.

Morneau absolutely did not deserve the MVP. Yes, a majority of the voters were wrong. Baseball "experts" and fans everywhere agree. But I never said he was overrated. All I said was that remember in 2005 he hit .237. One great year (and yes, it was a great year) does not mean he will do again next year - or every year. I'm not ready to annoint him until he does it more consistently. Go bad and read my comments before you post drivel like this, please.

If you don't win your conference championship in college football and have already lost to the #1 team in the country, you don't deserve a shot at the National Championship. Likewise, if you are not the MVP of your own team, you do not deserve to the MVP of an entire league. Santana and Mauer were both more valuable to the Minnesota Twins than Morneau was. He won only because of an anti-New York bias among the baseball writers in every other American League cities. But Morneau did have a great year. By the way, check out how I voted.

So what that he batted .237 his first year. He was a Rookie then. Mauer diddn't finnish his rookie season, and then it took him a few years to get his swing down. All I know is that by those two being room mates, Morneau will continue to be a ~.300 hitter, and we know he has the power, that wasn't the problem last year. His problem was he couldn't hit on a consistant basis so he tried to make up for it by swinging like it was a Home Run Derby. When he was hitting on a semi-consistant basis last year, he had the power. Morneau is not showing a "Fluke Year". This is what he is.

You don't know that. Nor do I. You believe it because you are a fan - and that is fine. AGAIN: I never said it was a fluke or that Morneau was overrated. I simply said that, to me the jury is still out until he has more time under his belt. That is the only way to know for sure. Please stop beating a dead horse and trying to misrepresent my statements. Although, he did not deserve the MVP this year.

Haha. Thanks shark. I just don't understand kids in this generation I guess. They just seem to want to protest without actually understanding the issues first. Hey, I see you're a Boston fan, I am a Yankee fan. I do agree that Ted Williams was the best pure hitter the game has ever seen. I mean the guy missed some of the most productive years of his career to two wars and he still put up awesome numbers. My dad used to see him play in Yankees stadium and said that he was the best hitter he ever saw (and that coming from a Yankee fan!).

Anon #3 - I'm "not knowledeable on NY sports"... You're right, I'm knowledgeable on SPORTS, period. BTW Jeter isn't even the MVP of his own league, his city or even his own team. Shit, there's 3 other guys in that town I'd take over Jeter on the left side of the infield (Reyes, Wright OR ARod).

The sixth place vote was correct. The rest of the votes (and the ridiculous Gold Glove) were Nike-"inspired".

The Democrats and the Republicans are the same. Just observe what has and will occur in Iraq.

Today is the die JFK was killed. WHY was he killed?

Jeter deserves the AL MVP more than Morneau, but the MVP should have been Mauer. A catcher who is great on defense and who win the batting title is more valuable than a first baseman who is a fine hitter or a shortstop who hits for a high average and wins a gold glove.

Go to my article to see how things have changed because the fans love high scoring games and defense is no longer appreciated as it used to be.

I have to say even though I am not a Dallas Cowboy fan, it just feels right when they win on Thanksgiving Day. I don't know about three games this year though, seems a bit much. But it's better than talking to the in-laws I guess. Haha.
