I have been a Jet fan for a long time. And we have been through some tough times, I don't have to tell any of you this. However, I was watching the game today, and saw as we all did when Chad Pennington went down with an injury to his ankle, and I have one thing to say. To all of you who cheered when he fell, and despite any claims to the contrary, you did. The ovation rose as he fell, and the ovation went higher when the backup Kellen Clemens came into the game. To all of you that were guilty, and most of you were, SHAME ON YOU!!
First of all, to question the leadership, toughness, or anything about Chad Pennington is 100, no make that 1000% misinformed. You all can say whatever you like about his arm strength, that Clemens has more, that Pennington doesn't have a gun...etc. I DON'T CARE!!!
Let's think back on the career of a guy that you all continue to knock. How's about 2002, he comes in for Vinny, leads us to a division championship. He then leads the 41-0 destruction of the Colts. I am sure that all of you were singing his praises then.
Let's fast forward to the year 2004. We all know what happened, Pennington hurts his shoulder, round 1. But then, he returns during the season, and with that torn rotator cuff, leads us past the San Diego Chargers in the wild card game, and then takes us within a field goal 2 separate times of the Championship game. WITH A TORN ROTATOR CUFF! This is definitely a guy to rip folks! Let's cheer when he's injured. (Sarcasm noted I hope)
Then 2005, he hurts it again versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. Then again, even with a torn rotator cuff, comes BACK INTO THE GAME, and nearly throws the winning touchdown pass! This is the guy that you all cheered the injury of today folks!
2006, plays the entire season, leads our Jets to a 10-6 record, and earns the Comeback Player of the Year award. Then quickly fast forward to today, where he injures his ankle, MANY OF YOU CHEER, and what does he do? He comes back, with enough tape around his ankle to make a new foot, clearly hobbling, and leads the team on a picture perfect drive for a touchdown.
Chad Pennington has done nothing but prove himself a leader, a gamer and whether you like it or not, THE ONLY QUARTERBACK ON THE ROSTER THAT IS GOING TO LEAD OUR JETS ANYWHERE! Give him a break, stop knocking him, and please don't cheer when he gets hurt. He has done more than enough to earn your respect.
