Born on July 22, 1893 in Clayton, Ohio, Jesse Haines (Jesse Joseph Haines) played for the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 19 year career. Haines broke into the bigs on July 20, 1918 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 2.98 ERA in 301.2 innings pitched in 1920, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Jesse Haines's best season was 1927, when he posted a 2.72 ERA, won 24 games and struck out 89 batters.
