No joke. The former 49ers great and future Hall-of-Fame wide receiver is set to retire with the franchise who made him a star.
Rice is set to sign a contract on August 24 and retire when the 49ers play the Seahawks, the last team he played football with. The 49ers are set to honor him at halftime with a highlight reel and Rice will then give a speech to the crowd.
Rice last played in the NFL before the 2005 season when he retired after he made the Denver Broncos roster, but he was listed as the fourth wide receiver. Rice won three championships and was named MVP of Super Bowl XXIII.
