Born on October 8, 1955 in Bryson City, North Carolina, Jerry Reed (Jerry Maxwell Reed) played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland Indians, Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 9 year career. Reed broke into the bigs on September 11, 1981 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and put up a 4.11 ERA in 72.1 innings pitched in 1985, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Jerry Reed's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1989, when he posted a 3.19 ERA and struck out 50 batters. However, others believe that it was 1987, when he posted a 3.42 ERA and struck out 51 batters.
