Jerry Groom (Jerome Paul Groom) was born on August 15, 1929 in Des Moines, Iowa. After going to high school at Dowling (Des Moines, IA), Groom attended the University of Notre Dame. Groom made his professional debut in the NFL in 1951 with the Chicago Cardinals. He played for the Chicago Cardinals for his entire 5 year career.

Most people believe that 1951 was Jerry Groom's best year.
