[edit] Biography

Jermaine Dye (Jermaine Terrell Dye) was born on January 28, 1974 in Oakland, California. He made his Major League debut on May 17, 1996 for the Atlanta Braves. In 1996, his rookie year, he hit .281 with 12 home runs and 37 RBI. Dye played for the Atlanta Braves, Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 11 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Jermaine Dye's most productive season. Some believe that it was 2000, when he slugged 33 home runs, hit for a .321 average and knocked in 118 runs. However, others believe that it was 2006, when he slugged 44 home runs, hit for a .315 average and knocked in 120 runs.

[edit] Scouting Report

Good power hitter, can drive the ball to all fields... Hits the ball particularly hard the opposite way, to right field... Is a below-average contact hitter... Plate patience is average... Has shown decent bat control in the past, but has suffered through horrid BABIP luck in 2007... Has a below-average understanding of the strike zone -- he'll have his share of strikeouts... Baserunning has declined sharply in 2007... Dye's massive drop-off in production (.235/.295/.467 in 2007, vs. .315/.385/.622 in '06) has largely been thanks to bad luck... In the field, Dye is a quality RF who gets good jumps and can track down balls in the gap. His arm is still quite good.
