[edit] Biography
The upstate New Yorker gained NBA attention after a stellar college career at Iona University, where he later also coached. 6' 10 and 255 pounds, Ruland was a powerful early 1980s big man who came to light with the Washington Bullets.
Ruland had terrific board strength and was a top NBA rebounder, he also had very good perimeter shooting range and was a deft passer. Ruland was burly enough inside to play both center and PF effectively.
He was later dealt to Philadelphia, and had a career-debilitating knee injury there that made him a reserve for the remainder of his career. Briefly, he was a true, and since much forgotten, NBA star.
