Born on January 7, 1962 in Wellston, Ohio, Jeff Montgomery (Jeffrey Thomas Montgomery) played for the Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Royals over the course of his 13 year career. Montgomery broke into the bigs on August 1, 1987 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 3.45 ERA in 62.2 innings pitched in 1988, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Jeff Montgomery's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1993, when he posted a 2.27 ERA, notched 45 saves and struck out 66 batters. However, others believe that it was 1989, when he posted a 1.37 ERA, notched 18 saves and struck out 94 batters.
