[edit] Biography

Born on September 5, 1963 in Florence, Alabama, Jeff Brantley (Jeffrey Hoke Brantley) played for the San Francisco Giants, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers over the course of his 14 year career. Brantley broke into the bigs on August 5, 1988 with the San Francisco Giants, and put up a 4.07 ERA in 97.1 innings pitched in 1989, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Jeff Brantley's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1996, when he posted a 2.41 ERA, notched 44 saves and struck out 76 batters. However, others believe that it was 1990, when he posted a 1.56 ERA, notched 19 saves and struck out 61 batters.
