Jay Williams Signs with the Nets

Jay Williams, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft signed with the New Jersey Nets on Thursday. Williams averaged 9.5 points, 4.7 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.15 steals in 75 contests during the 2002-03 season. He was named to the NBA's All-Rookie Second Team. However, his career went downhill after he got into a motorcycle accident on June 19, 2003.

The deal is not guaranteed. It allows Williams, a point guard, to try out for the Nets during training camp.

I thought the Bulls were idiots for paying him a dime after he crashed the bike. It was a clear violation of his contract, and they bought him out for $3 million. They were afraid the NBAPA would sue them if they didn't offer him something.
