[edit] Biography

Born on November 26, 1955 in Miami, Florida, Jay Howell (Jay Canfield Howell) played for the Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers over the course of his 15 year career. Howell broke into the bigs on August 10, 1980 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 5.38 ERA in 82 innings pitched in 1983, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Jay Howell's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1985, when he posted a 2.85 ERA, notched 29 saves and struck out 68 batters. However, others believe that it was 1989, when he posted a 1.58 ERA, notched 28 saves and struck out 55 batters.
