Born on November 18, 1936 in Waukegan, Illinois, Jay Hook (James Wesley Hook) played for the Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets over the course of his 8 year career. Hook broke into the bigs on September 3, 1957 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 5.13 ERA in 79 innings pitched in 1959, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Jay Hook's best season was 1960, when he posted a 4.50 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 103 batters.
