[edit] Biography

Born on July 11, 1977 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Javier Lopez (Javier Alfonso Lopez) played for the Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 4 year career. Lopez broke into the bigs on April 1, 2003 with the Colorado Rockies, and put up a 3.70 ERA in 58.1 innings pitched in 2003, his rookie year.

Lopez has played for the Rockies, D'Backs, and Red Sox at the major league level over the course of his career. He had a 1.71 ERA at home for Colorado in 2003, the lowest in club history. The Red Sox acquired him midway through the 2006 season from the Chicago White Sox for reliever David Riske.

[edit] Scouting Report

Lopez was the only left-handed arm in the Red Sox pen last year, and he actually performed quite admirably, amassing a 2.70 ERA in 27 appearances. This year, with the acquisition of Hideki Okajima, Lopez will probably lose some playing time and could be relegated to LOOGY duty.
