[edit] Biography

Born on January 23, 1977 in Tucson, Arizona, Jason Stanford (Jason John Stanford) played for the Cleveland Indians for his entire 2 year career. Stanford broke into the bigs on July 6, 2003 with the Cleveland Indians, and put up a 3.60 ERA in 50 innings pitched in 2003, his rookie year.

Stanford played two years (1996-97) at Barton County Community College in Kansas before transferring to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for 1998 and 1999. He signed with the Cleveland Indians as an undrafted free agent in 1999.

In 2003, Stanford made 5 starts in September. He left spring training in 2004 with job as a starting pitcher, but only made two starts that season before elbow injuries ended his season. He underwent Tommy John surgery on July 29, 2004. He finally returned to pitching in July 2005, when he made several minor league starts to rehab his elbow. He stayed with the Buffalo Bisons (AAA Cleveland) for all of 2006.

On June 14, 2007, Stanford made his first Major League appearance since April 2004, when he was called up to replace Jeremy Sowers in the rotation. He earned the win versus the Florida Marlins.

After Stanford made two starts, Jake Westbrook was activated from the disabled list, and Stanford was moved to the bullpen.

Stanford signed with the Washington Nationals during November 2007.
