  • Mario Lemieux of the Pittsburgh Penguins scored four goals in one period, tying the NHL record for most goals in a period, against the Montreal Canadiens. Lemieux was the 11th player to score four goals in one period.

  • Carlos Delgado agrees with the Florida Marlins to a $52 million, four-year contract, which includes an option year making it potentially worth $64 million over five seasons.
