Enrolled at Rice in January of 2007 after playing professional baseball for four seasons....after retiring at the end of the 2006 baseball season, sent out inquiries to a number of schools, including Rice, where his former HS teammate (Dustin Hufsey) was on the team and forwarded his information on to the coaching staff.

2007: Freshman All America selection by the Football Writers at tight end and a second-team Freshman All-American by both The Sporting News and Rivals.com...Consensus C-USA All Freshman pick... Honorable mention All-CUSA pick by the coaches... Tied for second on the team with 46 catches and finished second on the team with 585 yards receiving... Caught all but one of his passes during conference play, finishing fifth in the league in total catches during conference season and seventh in catches per game... Tied for the team lead with three, 100-yard receiving games on the year, including back-to-back efforts to close out the season... caught a careeer-best 11 passes against Tulsa in the season finale... top yardage game was his 113-yard effort against Tulsa the week before... Opened the year by rushing the ball three times in his first career action at the collegiate level after spending four years pitching in minor league baseball... Rushed for 11 yards against Nicholls...first two carries resulted in first downs and his third in the first touchdown of the season... attempted his first pass against Baylor... Picked up his first career reception, good for 16 yards, against Texas... Saw action at seven positions against Southern Miss, rushing for 39 yards and a touchdown, catching two passes for 16 yards, throwing an interception on offense, and picking up a special teams tackle and two others for losses while at defensive end. Shared a sack with Chris Jones and picked up a second tackle for loss... Caught a career-high five passes for 60 yards and his first career receiving touchdown against Memphis...also completed his first career pass for a 24-yard gain.

High School: Standout in both football and baseball at Azle High School....All district QB as a junior in 2001, but missed most of his senior season (2002) with an injury....earned all state and academic all state honors in baseball....named Distrct 6-4A Most Valuable Player as a senior......threw a no-hitter in first varsity game...drafted in the seventh round of the 2003 Draft by the Chicago White Sox...was cited by Baseball America as possessing the Best Fastball from the Sox 2003 draft class...Pitched in the White Sox system for three seasons at the Rookie League level before he was released. Played for a pair of independent teams in 2006 (Fort Worth and Laredo) before retiring....member of the National Honor Society at Azele HS.
