Jake Powell (Alvin Jacob Powell) was born on July 15, 1908 in Silver Spring, Maryland. He made his Major League debut on August 3, 1930 for the Washington Senators. In 1935, his rookie year, he hit .312 with 6 home runs and 98 RBI. Powell played for the Washington Senators, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 11 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Jake Powell's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1935, when he hit for a .312 average and knocked in 98 runs. However, others believe that it was 1936, when he stole 26 bases, hit for a .299 average and knocked in 78 runs.
