Jake Evans (Uriah L. P. Evans) was born on September 22, 1856 in Baltimore, Maryland. He made his Major League debut on May 1, 1879 for the Troy Trojans. In 1879, his rookie year, he hit .232 with 0 home runs and 17 RBI. Evans played for the Troy Trojans, Worcester Ruby Legs, Cleveland Spiders and Baltimore Orioles over the course of his 7 year career.
