It is only the third week of the preseason, but Houston Texan WR/PR Jacoby Jones is looking very promising as a return man. In three preseason games Jones, the 23-year old rookie out of Lane, has caught 8 passes for 105 yards, and a TD. Jones has only had 5 punt returns, but two of which he has returned for TD's. In week 2 of the preseason against the Cardinals, Jones fielded one punt, which he returned 80 yards for a TD. The following week against the Texans in-state rivals, the Cowboys, Jones fielded 2 punts and returned one of them for 91 yards and a TD. So far this preseason I think Jones has been the most exciting player, if not, then at least the most exciting return-man. Jones can also be used for trick plays, he has ran the ball twice on end-arounds for 34 total yards. Jones has already earned his spot on the team at WR, and PR.
Jones is just a bigger version of Hester. Hester is a 5'11", 189 pound DB turned wideout, while Jones is a 6'2" 210 pound wideout/PR. Last year, no one expected Hester to make an immediate impact, many people didn't even think he would make an impact as a playmaker at all. I think Jones could make a big statement, and make a run for the ROY award, by the end of the season he could be the number two WR, and have a Marques Colston-like surprise rookie season.
