Jackie Butler To The Alamo?

What does it say about how far the Knicks have fallen that the potential loss of the third string center fills me with such dread? Jackie Butler signed an offer sheet with the San Antonio Spurs yesterday. The deal is believed to be worth $7 million over three years which sounds like a lot for a guy with less than 60 NBA games under his undrafted, no college belt but when you remember back to the 2005-06 debacle you remember that Butler played harder, more efficiently and consistently than either of the high-priced wastes of space on the depth chart ahead of him. But with $90 million already invested in Eddy Curry and Jerome James it seems unlikely that the Knicks will be able to hold onto Butler whose status as intriguing prospect could skyrocket playing next to Tim Duncan. And you know what? Good for him. Butler played hard every time he got the chance and deserves to have something to show for it other than a seat behind two guys who couldn't care less and a coach and owner who couldn't know less.
