Jack McCarthy (John Arthur McCarthy) was born on March 26, 1869 in Gilbertville, Massachusetts. He made his Major League debut on August 3, 1893 for the Cincinnati Reds. In 1893, his rookie year, he hit .282 with 0 home runs and 22 RBI. McCarthy played for the Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Orphans, Cleveland Blues, Cleveland Broncos, Cleveland Naps, Chicago Cubs and Brooklyn Superbas over the course of his 12 year career.

Most people believe that Jack McCarthy's best season was 1899, when he stole 28 bases, hit for a .305 average and knocked in 67 runs.
