Born on March 7, 1950 in Vienna, Louisiana, J.R. Richard (James Rodney Richard) played for the Houston Astros for his entire 10 year career. Richard broke into the bigs on September 5, 1971 with the Houston Astros, and put up a 4.00 ERA in 72 innings pitched in 1973, his rookie year.

Most people believe that J.R. Richard's best season was 1979, when he posted a 2.71 ERA, won 18 games and struck out 313 batters.
